Express Entry

Immigration service

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is the online system Canada uses to manage applications for permanent residence from skilled workers under certain federal economic programs. We help you understand whether it may suit you and what a competitive profile involves.

Express Entry manages applications under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates submit an online profile, are ranked in a pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), and the highest-ranked candidates may be invited to apply for permanent residence.

A consultation is a chance to look at your education, work experience, language ability and other factors together, so you can see how the system may apply to your situation.

Who this may be relevant for

  • Skilled workers with qualifying work experience, in Canada or abroad
  • People with experience in a skilled trade
  • International graduates and temporary workers who have gained Canadian work experience
  • Candidates who have taken, or plan to take, an approved language test
  • People wondering whether a provincial nomination could strengthen their profile

Important considerations

  • Invitations are issued in draws, and cut-off scores change. Being eligible for the pool does not guarantee an invitation.
  • Language test results and credential assessments have validity periods that can affect your profile.
  • Information must be accurate and consistent. Misrepresentation can have serious consequences.
  • Program rules and draw patterns change, so your consultation focuses on the requirements that apply today.

The process

How it typically works

Every situation is different, but most applications move through these general stages.

Assess your eligibility

Review your education, work experience, language ability and other factors against program requirements.

Prepare your documents

Gather items such as language test results, an education credential assessment where required, and proof of work experience.

Submit your profile

Create your Express Entry profile and understand how you are ranked in the pool.

Respond to invitations

If you are invited to apply, complete your application within the required timeframe.

Please note: Eligibility depends on each applicant’s circumstances and current immigration requirements. Invoke Immigration cannot guarantee any immigration outcome; decisions are made by the Government of Canada.
